MAP VII:  The 1970s saw the fall of Vietnam to the Soviet Union to be followed shortly afterwards by Cambodia. Curiously China and the West ended up supporting the genocidal Khmer regime because it was hostile to the Soviet supporting Vietnamese. Ronald Reagan and Mrs. Thatcher were unlikely bedfellows with Pol Pot.The loss too of Afghanistan to the Soviet Union showed that the Soviet threat to Asia was very real well into the 1980s; a fact which in hindsight has sometimes been overlooked.
