MAP IV:  The Sino-Soviet split in 1961 fundamentally altered the geopolitical map of Asia. Unfortunately neither President Kennedy nor President Johnson fully understood the importance of this event; both men viewed China through the prism of the Korean War in which the Chinese army fought the US led United Nations forces to a standstill. The geopolitical shift indicated by this map was not begun to be exploited until Richard Nixon won the Presidency in 1968.
