MAP III: The loss of China to communism shows what a traumatic event this would have been to President Truman and Congress as they poured over their geopolitical maps in Washington. At this stage China was very much in the Soviet camp and a junior partner in seeking a world communist revolution. Amost as worryingly India and Indonesia, Asia’s second and third most populous countries, turned anti-American almost as soon as independence was achieved, albeit at this stage they remained nominally neutral.
